2 Corinthians 5:17 says That if any man be
in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things
are become new. I have always loved this verse; definitely a favorite of mine.
To know that because of the cross, we have the opportunity to be forgiven of
all things. No matter how rotten and tattered we have been as human begins,
giving our hearts to Jesus will make us new in His precious eyes.
Working in the field of Occupational
Therapy, I daily come in contact with elderly men and women. I study their
little fragile bones, their tired eyes and their weathered skin. I hear their
stories of their love for Jesus and their families and how most of their
mothers, fathers and siblings have past on. I recently had a patient who stated
to me daily, “Never get old, Danielle.”
As I watch them I am reminded of that
beautiful verse about the old becoming new. The older, weaker, and more fragile
we become in the end of our lives here on this earth, the closer we are to
becoming new. This verse has brought me joy when I work with my
patients. I can see they are old, but they are one day going to become new,
strong, and pain free. I pray that as I grow old, I will have all the more joy
knowing what Jesus is about to make me NEW!
